Hope for Hannah Rescue - Hope, Help, Educate
Hannah's News

Please help Rowboat, a Newfoundland in desperate need for medical care to rid her of heartworm disease.

Rowboat is infected with heartworm disease. Hope for Hannah Rescue wants to save Rowboat's life and pay for her medical treatment, but it is costly. Once a dog is infected it requires extensive medical treatment. Rowboat can receive treatment with donations. Any size donation for Rowboat's treatment is appreciated.  Please use the gofundme link below to make a donation for Rowboat. Remember, your donation is federally tax deductible (if you are able to itemize).

The pictures show the horrific life she lived until she was rescued. (Click any image for a larger view.)

Rowboat comes from a very rural area in Georgia. Rowboat has lived her entire life chained in the yard of a shotgun shack. Her owner was mentally disabled and didn't have the mental or financial wherewithal to take care of her. Since she was a puppy, good Samaritans have watched helplessly as she sat out on her chain with dirty water and very little food. She was forced to be out in the heat, the cold, and the rain. The volunteers would bring her food and fresh water. They even managed to talk the owner into letting them take her to the vet when they noticed she was bleeding. She was diagnosed with a prolapsed uterus and was immediately spayed and then forced to recover from her surgery while sitting in the yard in the dirt. The volunteers then brought her a doghouse to at least offer her some protection from the elements.  At one time there were other dogs tied out with her, but one by one they all died from heartworm disease.

Help Rowboat by donating with

In the beginning of April 2014, Rowboat's owner announced that he was leaving the area and not taking his animals. The good Samaritans finally were able to take Rowboat and her 2 cat friends out of that home. Rowboat was taken to the vet, given vaccinations, and tested for heartworm. Unfortunately, like the other dogs, Rowboat tested positive for heartworm. This can be treated, but the treatment is expensive. Once treated, we will find Rowboat a loving home and she will finally have the love and attention she so deserves.

Rowboat is 3 years old. She's very friendly and affectionate. She gets along with other dogs, cats, and loves children and people of all ages. All she wants is a chance to be someone's cherished pet. If you cannot adopt Rowboat, please consider making a donation to help us pay for her heartworm treatment and transport her out of Georgia.

Heartworm is a very serious disease and can be fatal. Sometimes there are no symptoms until it is too late. Protect your pets all year around. Read more about heartworm disease here: Heartworm Society FAQs and here: Heartworm - Pet Owner Resources
